Tsuwano Town
Located in the southwestern part of Shimane. The characteristic landscape of this old castle town still remains today. Tonomachi-dori Street in the central part of the town showcases rows of traditional residences with Tsukiji-bori (moats with white walls), while colorful koi (carp), the symbol of Tsuwano, swim in the moats. The area is also famous as the hometown of novelist Ogai Mori and philosopher Nishi Amane. Tsuwano is also known as the little Kyoto of Sanin. Tsuwano Station is the terminal station of the Yamaguchi steam locomotive.
