The Oki Islands UNESCO Global Geopark encompasses the Oki Islands: four inhabited and 180 small uninhabited isolated islets located in the Sea of Japan north-west of Shimane Peninsula.
The islands were created by vigorous volcanic activity from around seven to five million years ago. This dramatic geological history of this land islands has cultivated unique scenery, nature and culture.
The geopark is working hard to protect and raise awareness of this heritage for the sustainable development of the region. Why not make the journey to the Oki Islands and discover the rich nature and culture of the geopark yourself?
