Matsue Suitouro (Matsue Water Lantern Festival)

Matsue Suitouro is a water lantern festival that happens annually at Matsue Castle and around.
Not only Matsue Castle but the streets of the castle town such as Shiomi Nawate Street and Former Samurai Redidence also get lit up with countless of lanterns and illuminations.

 

The highlight is Horikawa Sightseeing Boat which offers night tours you can only take during this event. From the boat, you can admire the lantern illuminated streets and parks of the castle forest that are lit up from he lights on the boat. Enjoy the magical sceneries created by lights and shadows around the castle town of Matsue.
