Appreciation for your chopstick
At the shrine known as the last place the gods visit before they leave Shimane during “Kami-ari-zuki” (month of the gods), there is a festival where you can show your appreciation to your worn out chopsticks for one last time. Since a long time ago, in the time of the gods, chopsticks were considered as precious items that connect people with the gifts from the gods(food). At Mankusen Shrine, on 8/4 or “ha-shi” (hashi= chopsticks), you can bring your worn out chopsticks that you don’t use anymore, as well as the chopsticks that were once used by a loved one and show your appreciation to them through the burning ritual at the festival.
*plastic and/or metal chopsticks are not allowed.
*reservations are required (50 seats available)
