Funagoya Traditional Boat Houses

In the tranquil fishing village of the Tsuma area in Okinoshima Town, 20 traditional wooden boat houses run along the coastline facing the Japan Sea. In the background is Mt. Takada, which was once worshipped as a holy mountain.
These boat houses, which sit right on the water, are often found along the coast of the Japan Sea. While on the Pacific Ocean side, boat houses have to be located further inland due to the bigger difference between high and low tide.
