A hidden spot where the sky is reflected like a mirror
The “maenosu” intertidal shore platform, which can be found at the fishing port in the Yui area, is the widest wave-cut platform on Dogo Island. It was formed by strata 20 million years ago, when the Sea of Japan was only a lake. During the summer, it is submerged under water, but during the winter, when the sea level drops, it looks as if it is floating. The reflection of the sunset on the water’s surface is “take-your-breath-away” beautiful.
